The Energy of Empire 14. World War I - Prolonging the Agony?

Whatever effect the naval blockade ultimately had on the outcome of the war, it of course did not succeed in bringing it to a swift conclusion the way people believed and Churchill implied it might. Gerry Docherty and Jim McGregor contend this was because it was deliberately porous on the level of bureaucracy. They describe this as a conflict between the Admiralty, who wanted to institute an effective blockade, and the Foreign Office, who did not.

I was recently invited on Alex Tsakiris’ Skeptiko podcast, to explain why I’ve transitioned from assuming the idea ‘viruses don’t exist’ is some sort of lunatic fringe, to thinking it may well be true. Alex thinks this is crazy, Flat Earth science, probably a psychological operation run by the government. I attempt to use philosophy of science to assert why this paradigm should be firmly on the table.

It seems strange to me that throughout all human history, if anyone had told you man had been to the Moon, you’d have been a gullible fool to believe them. That position completely reverses on July 20th 1969, when all of a sudden you’d be a gullible fool not to believe them. Is it really that obvious we went to the Moon? For a more critical take it seems we look outside of mainstream academia, to more independent historians. Dr. Kevin Corbett qualified as a nurse in 1986 and worked on Britain's first purpose built AIDS unit. He went on to do doctoral research into patient’s experiences of HIV tests. This research led him to reject the paradigm that AIDS was caused by HIV, and to become cynical of the viral origins of disease in general. In this interview I ask Dr. Corbett about the parallels between the HIV and COVID eras, and in particular, what, if not a virus, caused all the excess mortality we’ve seen.
