The Energy of Empire 7. Japan - ’Honorary Aryans’
Wednesday Mar 16, 2022
Wednesday Mar 16, 2022
In the 1870s, with Japanese students studying in American universities, some US expansionists started to see Japan as a potential imperial partner, a proxy force through which they could extend greater influence into East Asia.

Understanding Ukraine: From 1917 to the Present War with Russia
Thursday Mar 03, 2022
Thursday Mar 03, 2022
A lot of media figures are talking as if they’re inside the Russian President’s head. From this position they are able to both explain his motives and diagnose his psychopathology at the same time.
Such speculation is fine as far as it goes, but what I find more valuable is to understand the historical context in which this conflict arises. In this podcast I will therefore be running over the past approximately hundred years of this history, hopefully explaining where the conflicting Ukrainian and Russian points of view emerge from.

The Energy of Empire 6. ‘Unhung Traitors’ - The Anti Imperialist League
Monday Feb 21, 2022
Monday Feb 21, 2022
In this episode we’re going to look at the resistance that grew to America’s emergence as an overseas empire in the 1890s—The Anti-Imperialist League. We’ll look at where the League failed and succeeded, what became of it and what parallels exist with anti-imperialism today. Are we running into the same problems over and over again? Just as empires have patterns they continually recreate, does anti-imperialism too?

Contradictions in Left Anti-Imperialism
Friday Feb 18, 2022
Friday Feb 18, 2022
‘If you think Alex Jones is right then it’s an overwhelmingly good thing he warned everyone about this emerging fascism. If you think he’s wrong then he’s scare mongered people into non-compliance with entirely sensible public health measures. What I want to point out though is that if Alex is guilty of creating fear and suspicion of government mandated medicine, then Abby Martin is no less so. Examining why takes us right into the heart of the Left and Libertarian anti-imperialist divide.’

I’d like to look at why Jimmy’s gypsy joke worked. If the audience don’t find the idea of genocide gypsies any funnier than they find pedophilia, why did they laugh?

When in stories of conquest
You no longer buy
And the promise of security Is seen for a lie
Then a different song We’ll just have to sing
A siren call of compassion
That sounds so warm and nurturing

Reading David Icke 2. Heal the World
Saturday Feb 05, 2022
Saturday Feb 05, 2022
Heal the World is a kind of nondual spiritual book, written in a really down to earth relatable style. I would suggest this is one of David Icke’s strengths as a writer, the ability to talk about spirituality as if he was having a conversation down the pub.

The Energy of Empire 4. Puerto Rico - ’Belonging to but not Part of’
Thursday Jan 27, 2022
Thursday Jan 27, 2022
‘Do not make peace until we get Porto Rico.’ That’s what Theodore Roosevelt wrote to his partner in imperial crime, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, as Roosevelt was preparing to personally invade Cuba. ‘Porto Rico is not forgotten and we mean to have it,’ Lodge replied.

The Energy of Empire 3. Cuba - A Splendid Little War
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
And so on April 24th 1898 the United States and Spain went to war over Cuba. There was no need for the U.S. to enact conscription as it would do in later wars, Spurred on by a belief that Spain had murdered Americans on the USS Maine, hundreds of thousands, maybe up to a million young men volunteered.
There were substantial American commercial interests in Cuba, mostly agricultural and in railways, totaling around one and a half billion dollars in today's money. Cuban rebels were talking about that most dreaded of things—land redistribution.
