Heal the World is a kind of nondual spiritual book, written in a really down to earth relatable style. I would suggest this is one of David Icke’s strengths as a writer, the ability to talk about spirituality as if he was having a conversation down the pub.

‘Do not make peace until we get Porto Rico.’ That’s what Theodore Roosevelt wrote to his partner in imperial crime, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, as Roosevelt was preparing to personally invade Cuba. ‘Porto Rico is not forgotten and we mean to have it,’ Lodge replied.

The Energy of Empire 3. Cuba - A Splendid Little War

And so on April 24th 1898 the United States and Spain went to war over Cuba. There was no need for the U.S. to enact conscription as it would do in later wars, Spurred on by a belief that Spain had murdered Americans on the USS Maine, hundreds of thousands, maybe up to a million young men volunteered. 

 

There were substantial American commercial interests in Cuba, mostly agricultural and in railways, totaling around one and a half billion dollars in today's money. Cuban rebels were talking about that most dreaded of things—land redistribution.

Founder of the Annexation Club, Lorrin Thurston, organised a ‘Committee of Safety’ to overthrow Hawaiian Queen Liliuokalani. Crucial to this effort was the presence of the USS Boston and 162 American Marines, who came ashore ostensibly to protect US citizens, but in reality ensuring the coup would be a success.

David Icke divides opinion. Fellow conspiracist Alex Jones famously called him ‘a turd in the punch bowl’, whilst Skeptiko’s Alex Tsakiris has him as one of the most original thinkers of our age. Is he a political iconoclast liberating minds, or a cult leader imprisoning them? Is he a spiritual visionary awakening people to their true nature, or a New Age guru peddling woo?
